1985 Pontiac Grand Am Auto No Reserve!
This car was running up until it developed an engine problem, which I do not
know the exact extent of. More on that later. This car actually runs, but barely
... not good enough to drive very far. I'm selling it as is or for its many good
parts.
The short version of we have here: very good body, 2 door, V6 engine (needs
work), rebuilt automatic transmission, ps, pb, new exhaust, a/c, good tires,
tinted windows, radio, trailer hitch and more.
The longer version: The body of this car has no major
dents. On photographing the car I just noticed a small ding over the drivers
side front side signal light that I never noticed before (some drunk must have
recently backed into it). It appears (see photos) that the front bumper,
passenger's side, is hanging a little (probably missing a bolt). The car is
white and must have been repainted recently. The windows are tinted (dark). The
previous owner put in some rather spiffy covers over the front car seats - the
back seat is in good condition.
Mechanically: The previous owner told me that the transmission had just recently
been rebuilt by ABC Transmission on Dixie Highway, just outside the entrance to
his trailer park. The car seemed to shift into gear fine for the short time I
drove it (see story below). The air conditioner actually works, blows cool air
(might need recharging, but doesn't seem to have any leaks). The two back tires
are like new and the 2 front tires are very good. The FM radio works (big sound,
nice speakers) and all the electronics (lights, signals, wipers, power windows)
work fine. The car presently has 3 quarters of a tank of gas.
What the car needs: engine work (or new engine) and a battery. The engine runs,
but choppy, rough idle, no compression. Is not smoking and doesn't overheat. It
isn't leaking oil, but there is too much oil in it and it shows on the front
head gasket. The previous owner used to plug this car into a charger when he
wasn't using it to avoid having to put in a new battery. That charger, with
alligator clips, is still attached to the battery and included. The car will
start with a boost. The passenger side door locks from the inside, but doesn't
open with a key, but a new lock for that door is included. It needs a cleaning
and it will shine like new since the paint is fairly recent. Great to fix up and
sell as it only needs these few things.
Every car has a story, though my history with this car is brief. A few months ago, I was desperate for transportation and bought this car a little too quickly. On my test drive, the previous owner (R.I.P.) assured me that it was only running a little choppy because it was low on gas, so we stopped and put in some high test, drove it a little while longer, then I bought it ... paid $600 for it. The guy gave me a run down of all the parts he replaced along the way and the car did look good (still does).
Here's the ad that I responded to:
1985 PONTIAC GRAND AM, white, auto, V6, rebuilt trans, new exhaust, a/c, new tires, tinted window, good cond., must see, $650, 954-781-XXXX.
The car ran OK (a little better
than what I was driving) for 2 weeks, then the engine seemed to lose it's
compression. I made it back home and it's been parked ever since. I ran it in
the local papers and a few people looked at it. One mechanic felt that since the
engine wasn't knocking that it might only need head gaskets. Most of the people
that called my newspaper ad asked "what kind of engine work" thinking they were
just going to get a tune up and go. My reply was that it needed engine work or a
new engine and to most people who called that was more than could deal with.
Locals could email phone number to make an appointment to see the car. While I
can boost this car and get it running, there will be no test drives (I don't
want to get it stuck anywhere).
The car is showing 126,000+ miles on the odometer. The VIN # is:
1G2NV27L6FC716254 . I have the title for this car. The car is sold as is,
for parts, no warranty is implied. The buyer or winning bidder can drive it
away, but only if he lives a short distance from me and he should have someone
follow close behind. The last time I drove the car it was able to get up to 40
mph, but stopping for lights and getting it up again is not recommended for a
long drive. Buyer or winning bidder must pay for the car within 5 days and pick
up the car (or have it picked up) within 10 days from the auction's close. You
cannot come by and take the parts you need and leave the rest of the car (you
must take the whole car ... this is not a junkyard). Only accepting PayPal for
payment on this parts car. I have a web page where bigger pictures are posted
(write for address). Any other questions, feel free to write, ask.
